Beginning with the cocktail reception and dine arounds on Thursday night, the Friday morning sessions and keynote luncheon address, and ending with the first ever drink around, the good times did indeed roll at the CREW Connects conference held in New Orleans on April 3 & 4!
Our chapter sends its thanks and appreciation to our guest speakers, panelists and attendees. Participants from Texas and Louisiana as well as Alabama and Georgia were “connected to the future” as panelists discussed the progress in their cities.

New Orleans CREW was honored to have two leaders from the New Orleans community as keynote speakers for the CREW Connects conference.
Councilmember Stacy S. Head, District B, City of New Orleans, will be opening the general session of our conference, CREW Connects to the Future, on Friday, April 4, 2008. Since her election to the New Orleans City Council, Councilmember Head has taken a leading role in revitalizing her District and the City of New Orleans. Bringing a fresh point of view to City Hall, Councilmember Head has focused on commercial development to utilize already existing infrastructure to handle traffic and parking for new and expanding businesses, has worked with the state and federal governments to develop and help businesses obtain economic incentives for investment and supports a master zoning plan for the City of New Orleans in order to streamline in zoning matters.
Suzanne Mestayer, the New Orleans President of Regions Bank, will speak at the noon luncheon on Friday, April 4, 2008. Regions Bank is a top ten bank holding company in the United States with $140 billion in assets and operations in 16 states, and in her capacity as New Orleans President, Ms. Mestayer is responsible for a portfolio of $6 billion in loans and deposits and for all lines of business including commercial middle market, commercial real estate, business banking, private banking, and consumer banking, as well as the South Louisiana community markets.

Kathy Carr, CREW Austin, is the Global Real Estate Manager for Freescale Semiconductor. With over nine years in commercial real estate, Kathy’s roles have included tenant representation, direct and third-party landlord representation, and all aspects of corporate real estate. Currently Kathy coordinates 13 million square feet of real estate for Freescale Semiconductor at over 118 sites world wide.
Kim Butler, CREW Dallas, Executive Vice President of Transwestern, is responsible for the leasing and marketing of office properties in the Dallas are market. Kim has more than 21 years of commercial real estate experience and has been with Transwestern for 20 years. Kim was named one of The Dallas Business Journal’s Top Commercial Real Estate Performers (“Heavy Hitters”) and received The Journal’s 1995 Best Office Deal for Developed Real Estate award.
Susan A. Halsey, Greater Fort Worth CREW, is a partner with over 22 years of experience in the Transactions section of Jackson Walker, L.L.P. She is the current statewide chair of the firms’ Real Estate practice group, which includes approximately 80 lawyers located in 6 offices. Susan’s practice consists primarily of representing companies, partnerships, individuals and financial institutions in various real estate transactions and financial matters.
Leigh Ann Ahr, CREW Houston, is with the Industrial Leasing Team for Weingarten Realty in Houston, which is responsible for leasing 7.5 million square feet of office warehouse buildings with spaces from Sugarland (Southwest Houston) to the Budweiser Plant (Eastside). Weingarten Realty (NYSE: WRI) offers superior shopping center and industrial locations in attractive markets across the nation, and with more than 70 million square-feet of premier space under management in 23 states, Leigh Ann and Weingarten continue to expand in high-growth markets through both acquisition and new development.
Deborah K. MacDonald, CREW Houston, joined Cameron Management in April, 2007 as Director of Leasing and General Manager, where she directs leasing activities for all Cameron office projects in the Houston area totaling 1.2M square feet. Deborah also serves as general Manager overseeing all leasing, operations, and equity partner relations for 1001 McKinney, a 370,000 square foot CBD office project and leads the team on recent acquisitions, including 2000 St. James (335,000 sq. ft.) and other prospective purchases.
Laura Van Ness, CREW Houston, is the Business Development Director for Central Houston, Incorporated, which focuses on urban planning, economic development, transportation issues, public safety, governmental affairs and entertainment programs. Laura focus is on office tenant retention and recruitment as well as major hotel, residential and other development projects.
Brenda Vickrey Johnson, CREW San Antonio, has over 25 years of experience with Vickrey & Associates, Inc. and has, since 1993, been President and CEO of this leading civil engineering firm, which employs over 80 professionals. Brenda has considerable experience in the utilization of public/private initiatives to achieve common goals and objectives, as well as financial, project management and marketing experience in the engineering and banking industries.
Valerie Bestoff Marcus, New Orleans CREW, has worked in her family's real estate business since 1984. Her responsibilities as Vice President are to manage and lease various commercial properties, mainly strip shopping centers. She holds the ICSC designation, Certified Shopping Center Manager (CSM).
