New Orleans CREW is delighted to shine this month’s Member Spotlight on Susan Broussard who recently received a big promotion to Bank Chief Counsel for Capitol One Bank. Susan had admirably stepped in to lead the Bank legal team on an interim basis last summer, and served as both interim Chief Counsel for the Bank and as manager of Legal’s Commercial and Small Business Banking Products Group.
As Chief Counsel, Susan will manage all vertical legal support provided to CONA and its subsidiaries. This includes the teams responsible for Branch Distribution, Consumer products, Deposits, Commercial and Small Business Banking (SBB) products, and Asset Protection. She will continue to serve as a member of the Senior Leadership Team in Legal, the Bank Leadership Team, the Bank New Products, Marketing, and Initiatives Governance (NPMIG) Team, and the CONA Risk Oversight Committee.
Susan joined Capital One by virtue of their merger with Hibernia Bank, where she began work in 1991. Prior to joining Hibernia, Susan practiced law at the New Orleans offices of McGlinchey Stafford in the Banking and Commercial Law group. There, she practiced all aspects of commercial lending and real estate law, including the representation of commercial lending institutions for secured transactions, and the representation of real estate owners and developers in purchase, lease and lending transactions.
Susan received her J.D. from Louisiana State University, where she was a member of the Law Review and the Order of the Coif. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Louisiana – Lafayette in Business Administration, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Susan is also very involved in both professional organizations and the community. In addition to New Orleans CREW, she is a Member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, Louisiana Bankers Association, Bank Counsel Section and Bank Counsel Committee, and the Texas Bankers Association. Susan also is the Leader of the Capital One Legal Department’s Community Involvement Team, as well as volunteering for the Louisiana Pro Bono Project, City Park, and Rebuilding Together.
